Favourite website: Rhymes with Crashdot, Smashdot, and Splashdot.
Favourite application, game, or program of all time: The two everyday essentials: mutt (well now mutt-ng) and vim.
What are you playing and working on right now:
A little programming project that's been going on for two years.
What is your current screensaver, background, or wallpaper: Digital mushrooms from digitalblasphemy.com
What's so special about your computer:
Nuthin! I need upgradage!
How many computers do you have: Currently: an old Thinkpad, and an old (blueberry) ibook.
What was your first computer: IBM XT
Do you remember the first program you ran on it: I had been using computers before then, got my xt very late in the piece.
Geekiest moment of your life:
I remember setting up some funky network services involving a vpn, ldap, samba and a few other bits and pieces.
When did you first realize you were a geek:
In primary school--although i wouldn't admit it until the end of high school. Now I am happy to be a geek.
Have you ever said anything geeky that someone else did not understand: Often--to my poor wife.
What is the funniest/most bizarre computer/Internet/geeky experience you have ever had: I always liked ssh'ing back home to my machine and cranking up the sound and putting some music on if my then girlfreind was in bed (yes the one I married).
What is your favourite quote:
"Linux is not the answer. Linux is the questions. Yes is the answer."
What do you do when you are (heaven forbid) not at your computer(s):
Those times come too often; I've got a wife and two young kids to keep me busy now. :)
You have a time machine that can only be used once. If you use it you will not come back. What date would you set it to, and what ONE thing would you take with you (not a computer): Alan regretfully activated his time machine before he got into it, so if he had another chance, he would go back and remind himself not to send it back in time without him.

Alan, who in geek world is conufsed and some people in the real world once called him Bob, is a member of the Bundaberg Linux Users Group (www.bundylug.org), and is trying to help with BundyPCS (www.bundypcs.org). Alan, who we are shocked to learn is a linux geek, is proficient in php, and will get around to learning C and python one day. Alan is always loooking for a good geeky position. ISP sysadmin would be good...
