Geek Of The Day: Barryogen |
|
Nickname: "Barryogen"Real Name: Dave Age: 25 Resides: Dunedin, New Zealand (it's next to--East of--Australia) Occupation: Systems Admin
Favourite websites: http://dave.net.nz
Favourite application, game, and program of all time: Cavedog's: Total Annihilation (Chris: Please Make TA2) What are you playing and working on right now: Nothing, I'm slack... well scripting some tools for work, but nothing important.
What is your current Wallpaper/Screensaver: Black, no pic.
What's so special about your computer room: The 10Mbit wif connection to my webhost... mmm, speed.
How many computers do you have: 3, main desktop, gaming rig of 18 months ago, old celeron lappy doing movie/media serving type stuff, old dual P2 webserver, webserving. What was your first computer: Pentium 2 266 on the day of release... I was a late bloomer.
Do you remember the first program you ran on it: Internet Explorer...how sad is that.
Geekiest moment of your life: My wedding day, lappy doing the music, and my grandma in law put an icing Pc on the cake :)
When did you first realize you were a geek: About a month after I got my PC.
If I was a program I'd be: a multi-protocol IM client.
What is your favourite quote: "Exactly.... Doh!" --Homer Simpson, acting as Mr Burns
What do you do when you're not at your computer(s): "Not at my computer"? I'm always at my computer!
What is the funniest/most bizarre computer/Internet experience you have ever had: 1.In 1972 when 747 aircraft first started landing at O'Hare in Chicago, I drove 70 miles from my Air Force station to photograph one at O'Hare. Bob Crane of Hogans Heros got off the plane and I asked him to stand aside so I could take the plane's picture. 2. Hand punching paper tape to get a CNC mill to cut a part correctly.
You have a time machine that can only be used once. If you use it you will not come back. What date would you set it to, and what ONE thing would you take with you (not a computer):
I'd keep it for a week prior to using it, and go back a week and talk to myself teaching myself everything... paradox I know, but surely it'd be fine.

Dave, who has some scripting skills, and odd hardware knowledge, has the unique ability of always knowing "someone who can do it", no matter what it is. Dave would like you to visit his website, and he would like to point out that there is absolutely no porn of any sort on his site...at all.
