Geek Of The Day: c0redump |
|
Nickname: "c0redump"
Real Name: Jack Age: 38 Resides: Burnaby, British Columbia Occupation: Software Engineer
Favourite websites: http://slashdot.org
Favourite application, game, and program of all time: CounterStrike, Borland Delphi, and vi
What are you playing and working on right now: CounterStrike, Statistical Analysis Software (in Delphi, ofcourse), a shell script in BASH (using vi, ofcourse) ;)
What is your current Wallpaper/Screensaver: "Beyond the Grace of God"
What's so special about your computer room: It has a network with 8 boxes and a dual homed firewall.
How many computers do you have: I currently have 8 workstations (two running XP, 6 running linux) and two linux firewall boxes. I am planning for two more systems before the end of the month.
What was your first computer: Commodore PET 8k
Do you remember the first program you ran on it: It was a chess game that took two days to type the code in to be able to play it.
Geekiest moment of your life: When I submitted a product non-conformance form to the QA department on the coffee in the lab.
When did you first realize you were a geek: Immediately!
If I was a program I'd be: A compiler because I like to churn code.
Favourite quote: "Meddle not in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and go good with mustard."
What do you do when you're not at your computer(s): Freak.
What is the funniest/most bizarre computer/Internet experience you have ever had: I used to have tiny contests of wit with a co-worker, named Jay. Once he unplugged my mouse and plugged another one into the computer but dropped that mouse behind the desk. Took me five minutes to find out what was wrong. I, in turn, wrote a fake BSOD and added to the autoexec.bat of his Win95 box and then pinged him off the network so that he would have to reboot. Took him 20 minutes. Heh heh, I won. ;)
You have a time machine that can only be used once. If you use it you won't come back. What date would you set it to, and what ONE thing would you take with you (not a computer): I'd go back to 1978 and I'd take ever cent I had to buy stock in (God forgive me for saying this) MicroSloth and Yahoo!

The Truth Behind The Geek (*creative liberties taken for the benefit of the reading audience)
Jack, a B.C. boy who's worked every end of the industry there is from hardware to software, tech support to development, is excited about the thought of having WiFi available on commercial air flights. However, he is a little concerned about setting up an on-flight CounterStrike server, especially when his terrorist player yells out: "Bomb has been planted."
