Favorite website(s): None really, though the BBC's news site is the one I visit most often.
Favorite book, movie, or TV show: The Hyperion/Endymion series by Dan Simmonds. Favorite game, application, or program of all time:
That's like asking what my favourite bacteria is :)
What are you playing and working on right now: Right now I'm working on renovating a house that was last decorated in 1978. I'm also vaguely thinking about starting up my next business.
What is your current screensaver, background, or wallpaper: http://photos.hinterlands.org/p16912648.html
What's so special about your computer (room):
Nothing!
How many computers do you have: I have one dual Opteron workstation and one old laptop.
What was your first computer: An Acorn Electron that was built from a kit.
Do you remember the first program you ran on it (or the first game you played): I wrote a small BASIC program to ask for three numbers and then sort them into ascending order.
Geekiest moment of your life: Writing a SQL database to solve Scrabble.
When did you first realize you were a geek:
I didn't know I was one, I've never bitten the head off a live chicken!
Have you ever said anything geeky that someone else did not understand: My wife isn't technical at all, so all the time, really.
What is your favourite quote:
"The great thing about standards is that there are so many to choose from."
If you were a computer program, you would be: why:
Uptime. Because that's what the wife calls me.
What are you doing when you're not at your computer(s):
DIY, lots and lots of DIY.
You
have a time machine that can only be used once. If you use it you will
not come back. What date would you set it to, and what ONE thing would
you take with you (not a computer): Mart took apart his time machine and made it into a woodshed.

(*creative liberties may have been taken for the benefit of the reading audience)
Mart, who is a geek of a different sort, probably spends more time watching home improvement shows than he does upgrading his firmware. Mart, who doesn't have any sites to promote, says that "if you happen to be in Norway and need an anti-spam and anti-virus mail system then please feel free to look me up." |
