Geek Of The Day: The Beyonder |
|
Nickname: "The Beyonder"Real Name: Daniel Age: I am alpha and omega, I am the beginning and end Resides: Kingston, Ontario Occupation: Working Stiff
Favourite websites: Globeand mail.com, www.cbc.ca/thehour/
Favourite application, game, and program of all time: Halo 2, Burnout 3 (toss up between the 2) What are you playing and working on right now: Myst Revelations; just completed building a Linux box for me ma.
What is your current Wallpaper/Screensaver: My daughter's baby picture/Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy.
What's so special about your computer room: It is my sanctuary, sorta like Superman's Fortress Of Solitude.
How many computers do you have: 2, one 600mhz PIII Linux (Suse 9.1) 256 megs sdram, one 1.3ghz Win2000/Suse9.1 256 megs ram bus (which is why I haven't upgraded ram yet, too expensive). What was your first computer: An old Texas Instrument, back in late 70's early 80's; I think my parents still have it somewhere...
Do you remember the first program you ran on it: Munchman!
Geekiest moment of your life: I got sucked into a Star Wars vs Star Trek debate only to tell people that Robotech would stomp both into oblivion (c'mon ya know in your heart of hearts it's true).
When did you first realize you were a geek: The same day I realized that I was surrounded by morons.
If I was a program I'd be: A security program like Tron, but cooler.
What is your favourite quote: "I know not what fear is nor do I know what it is I fear now." --John Donne Meditation VI
What do you do when you're not at your computer(s): Er... is that possible?
What is the funniest/most bizarre computer/Internet experience you have ever had: 1.In 1972 when 747 aircraft first started landing at O'Hare in Chicago, I drove 70 miles from my Air Force station to photograph one at O'Hare. Bob Crane of Hogans Heros got off the plane and I asked him to stand aside so I could take the plane's picture. 2. Hand punching paper tape to get a CNC mill to cut a part correctly.
You have a time machine that can only be used once. If you use it you will not come back. What date would you set it to, and what ONE thing would you take with you (not a computer):
I would go back to 200 B.C., and I would take a Palm Pilot with the complete Encyclopedia Brittanica, and how to chemistry/metallurgy and take over the world with this knowledge.

Daniel, who wouldn't say no to being elected Evil Overlord Of The World, has an extensive collective of Magic: The Gathering cards. Daniel, who is a "self-taught computer" expert with a dual personality, says he would be much smarter if he wasn't always fighting with his teacher.
